TYNEMOUTH HEALTH CENTRE
What was just a large unused lawn was transformed into a nature play garden with a big focus on foraging and exploration through our food forestry ethos plus large logs and boulders scattered through to scramble on.
The two main shelters are used by both staff on breaks and kids for one to one therapies, anchoring the wildness with a signature feeling that represents the local area, a few minutes walk from our Markfield community garden.
We installed chalk boards in the interior, which are always full of colour and expression; living and evolving art works.
This was a fully zero waste project, any excess from excavations we transported to the perimeter of the buildings where there was a narrow strip of turf and created a nature trail with contoured earth, rubble and logs, seeded and whip planted and now a haven for local wildlife. We also created a feature crush corridor within the main garden with the choice site waste material, celebrating the magic of re use and habitat creation.
It’s been an absolute pleasure to create and see it loved by staff and visiting kids.
